Our friend Scott came over and helped us record a few songs with video. Here’s our Bluegrass version of Railroad Bill, with an awfully pretty intro. But pretty murder ballads are the best, right?
We’ve heard different accounts of the traditional song, but we think that Azizi Powell’s history is the most thorough collection regarding the song’s history.
Here’s an Etta Baker version of Railroad Bill that which inspired Marky’s playing:
And the Riley Puckett version from 1925 (the song’s been around a while!)
A list of songs based on Railroad Bill can be found on the Secondhand Songs website.
